Your liquor store must follow the law in your area. In the United States, patrons must be 21 in order to buy alcohol. They must also be 21 in order to purchase tobacco products in most states, but 18 is still allowed in some states. At a minimum, you must check the identification of anyone who is attempting to purchase alcohol or tobacco. You may think there is no easy way to do this, but Bepoz has a solution for you.

A Bepoz age scanner lets you validate the age of the customer. It can verify age 21 for liquor and tobacco. It can also be altered to allow the age of 18 for tobacco in those states that have not yet passed the Tobacco 21 Model Policy. Those states are Alaska, Montana, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, West Virginia, and the Carolinas. When you scan the ID, the customer’s date of birth appears on the screen so you can fully validate the age. Some states have even stricter policies. They may require that you check the ID of all individuals shopping together, not just the one who is paying. Hey, this is Tim with Bepoz’s point of sale systems for liquor stores, and in this video, we’re going to talk about age verification.

So with many liquor stores, they want to be able to scan the driver’s license and validate the age for the customer. And in this case, with special scanners, not every scanner, but if you get the appropriate scanner, you can scan the driver’s license and validate the age of the customer and there’s many different ways this could be done. 

It doesn’t necessarily require a scanner but when you sell the appropriate product, it will prompt the cashier to either scan or validate the age of the person. Now, if you happen to sell liquor and tobacco, this could have the appropriate age for each. So you’d have to be 21 for liquor and 18 for tobacco, and when you scan, it will track their date of birth and keep it in the journal with the transaction so that if you have you know, the ABC board come by or whatever the authority is in your state to check on your compliance, that you’d be able to go back and look at that transaction and see that you scanned the driver’s license and this was the age of the person, this was the date of birth of the person with that specific transaction. 

Now, you can scan this or you could also just have the date of birth show on the screen if you don’t want to be scanning driver’s licenses. I just show the date of birth that they need to be older with and then visually validate the age that would be. 

Another option, but if you’re doing the driver’s license scanning, that ability to scan the driver’s license also lends itself to loyalty, and there will be another video on loyalty, but you could literally scan the driver’s license and have it pre-populate the information and their driver’s license could become their loyalty card at your business. So now everybody always has their loyalty card with them because it is their driver’s license
