Creating Green Flow on St Patrick’s Day With Your POS

As a bar owner, you need more than luck on St Patrick’s Day. You need your point-of-sale (POS) system to help you with the green flow of cash and beer on this busy holiday. A holiday celebrated by Irish and the Irish-at-heart with parades, parties, and specialty foods. So don’t forget to capitalize with a strategic plan built on data and executed through sophisticated POS technology like Bepoz’s. Here are steps for setting up cash flow for this St. Paddy’s Day.

Review Your Menu

Keep your beverages authentic to what you do, but be creative and consider some St Patrick’s Day spirits, everything from Irish-style beers to specialty cocktails with Irish whisky. Review your sales trends from last year through your POS, and then base this year’s menu off of data. If the green beer on tap was a hit and you ran out last year, that’s a good indicator that you might want to do that again. This time make sure you have enough.

What Are Your Promotions/Discounts?

As you’re finalizing your menu, consider your promotions and discounts. Some ideas might include 10% for those who wear green, or maybe it’s an entry fee that includes a specialty cup and unlimited green beer. There are an unlimited number of ways to do this. Once you’ve made your final decisions, proudly display your specials on table-toppers, banners and through your LCD (digital) menu above your bar.

Don’t Forget About Vouchers

Take advantage of Bepoz’s advanced voucher system, by providing your most loyal customers or members with incentives. One idea might be to give these folks blinking green beads at the door when they display their voucher. That way your bartenders know who the loyal customers/members are and can give them special attention at the bar, or a certain discount on their tab.

Invite Your Customers

There are many ways to get the word out. Make sure your staff is aware and can personally invite customers back for the party. Also, make sure you spread the word through your social media channels. Use your CRM through your POS to email or text customers an invitation to celebrate. Provide different incentives to certain clientele based off guidelines you set like past amount spent, times visited, etc. Tell customers about your specials and ask them to bring their friends.

Check Inventory

Now that you have made the menu, determined the promotions/discounts/vouchers, and sent out the invitations, it’s time to check your inventory with your POS. Again, look at data from last year to help you decide what to order so you don’t have too much or too little. Also, check your stock room for decorations, what can you use again? What do you need to order?

Update Your POS

Most importantly, make sure you’ve updated your POS with all the discounts and promotions. The more prepared you are, the smoother the day will go.

If you review these steps and start to implement them now, chances are you’ll be ready by St. Patrick’s Day and the green flow will be more than just coming out of your tap, hopefully the cash will flow into your drawer too.
