A Guide To Mother’s Day Gift Card Promotions With Your POS
Spring is in full bloom, and consumers are expected to shower their mothers in everything from jewelry to restaurant outings and more for Mother’s Day 2017. In fact, this year the National Retail Federation (NRF) says consumers are expected to spend the highest number in the survey’s 14-year history—$23.6 billion.
So what Mother’s Day promotions will your business participate in to increase sales? Why not capitalize on the customers that aren’t exactly sure what to buy. Gift cards are perfect for Mom’s favorite restaurant, spa and/or boutique shop. Here’s how retail and restaurant businesses can utilize their point-of-sale (POS) software for supporting gift card promotions.
A lot of times, customers have no clue what to buy their mother. Make it easy for them. Promote gifts cards a few ways through package deals and signing up through your loyalty program. Use your POS to make modifications to the cards and packages. Try these promotional ideas.
- Implement a “Buy and Book” discount package. If the customer purchases a Mother’s Day gift card and makes a reservation for a future night, give them a $5 bonus on the card value. When they show up for that reservation, give them a $5 gift card or a free appetizer.
- Offer a free dessert or appetizer if they purchase a Mother’s Day gift card and sign up for your loyalty program.
- Personal Experience – According to Fortune Magazine, consumers will spend $1.6 billion this year in personal services. If you’re a spa, advertise a 30-minute massage, facial or spa treatment gift card. Then allow for mom to reload her gift-card when she uses it. For example, if she reloads another $50 to her card, provide an additional $5. Or if it’s a $100 reload, then provide an additional 15-minute massage.
- Boutique – Email your customers in your loyalty program through your POS to let them know about your multiple gift card offer. Remember, some folks have to buy for a mother, mother-in-law, wife, grandmother, etc. Why not bundle up several cards together and sell with a discount. An example might be to sell three $25 gift cards for $70, or four $25 gift cards for $90. That way your customer can purchase all they need in one transaction for the multiple mothers in their life.
